Mortise Locks

If you don’t have a deadbolt lock most chances are you have a mortise lock installed instead. This type of lock is very common and like deadbolts also used on front door and very similar to deadbolts but the main difference lies in the installation process.

A mortise lock needs to have a pocket carved into the doors side frame so that it can seamlessly fit into the door itself. On the other hand a deadbolt requires 2 holes to be drilled.
